2024 Awards and Prizes

At SECEC, we believe in the power of collaboration.

We aim to lead professional development by providing our members with high level up-to-date scientific content and encouraging unbiased practice. We are also keen on fostering innovation and using our network of passionate professionals to disseminate good ideas!

In this context, the Research and Development Committee has reviewed more than 140 applications to select the winners for 3 categories of Awards and Prizes. The winners have been announced at the SECEC Congress in Munich.

SECEC Research Prizes 2024

  • Research Grants

    • Clinical Research Grant : Arasch Wafaisade (Germany) for the study entitled "Determination of factors influencing intra-articular cefazolin concentration after routine preoperative intravenous administration of 2 g cefazolin as perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis in arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery"

    • Clinical Research Grant : Joan Miquel Noguera, Mariona Quintana, Carlos Torrens and Mireia Viñas (Spain) for the study entitled "Artificial Intelligence-based prediction of clinical outcomes in patients sustaining proximal humeral fractures"

    • Basic Research Grant : Ali Ersen (Turkey) for the study entitled "EnthesIST Patch for Massive Rotator Cuff Tears"


  • Norbert Gschwend Prize : Elisa L. Zwerus (The Netherlands) for the study entitled "(Back) to the basics: diagnostic value of physical examination in elbow pathology"



SECEC Congress Prizes 2024

  • Best Paper : Elisa Cassart, Joan Miquel, Fernando Santana, Laura Valls, Mónica Salomó, Ivet Parés, Raquel Martínez and Carlos Torrens for the paper entitled "Is It Necessary To Do A One-Week X-Ray Control In Acute Proximal Humeral Fractures Conservatively Treated? Prospective Randomized Multicentric Study"

  • Best Poster : Mikaël Chelli, Michel Azar and Pascal Boileau for the paper entitled "Glenoid Lateralization And Subscapularis Repair Are Independent Predictive Factors Of Improved Internal Rotation After Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty"

  • Grammont Award : P. Moroder, S. Poltaretskyi, P. Raiss, P. Denard, B. Werner, B. Erickson, J. W. Griffin, N. Metcalfe and P. Siegert for the paper untitled "The critical role of posture adjustment for range of motion simulation in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty preoperative planning"

  • National Societies Best Papers : Stefan Moosmayer (Norway) for the paper entitle "Results from a randomized comparison study between tendon repair and physiotherapy for small-to-medium-sized rotator cuff tears with a 15-year follow-up"

  • Video competition

    • Best shoulder video : Pascan Boileau (France) for the video entitled "Arthroscopic Distal Clavicular Autograft for congruent Glenoid Reconstruction"

    • Best elbow video : Stefan Bauer (Switzerland) for the video entitled "Direct Anterior Bone Block grafting for Coronoid Bone Loss and Dysplasia: critical steps and pearls"
